Southwest Airlines will begin charging for the first and second checked bags for flights booked on or after May 28, 2025. However, loyalty perks remain for A‑List members or passengers holding Business Select fares, who will continue to receive free checked baggage. The move follows pressure from Elliott Investment Management after acquiring a $1.9 billion stake, as Southwest seeks to increase revenue by aligning baggage policies with other major carriers. Fee details were later confirmed: $35 for the first bag and $45 for the second.
