A new section for passengers to decode aviation policy
Know Your Rights Before Your Flights

As an Ambassador for the Affordable Skies Coalition, I know that air travel can sometimes feel complicated. Schedules change, disruptions happen, refund policies vary, and airline rules are not always easy for travelers to understand in the moment.

At the same time, passengers do have important protections and resources available to them. Understanding those protections can help travelers make informed decisions, ask the right questions, and navigate their travel experience more confidently.

That is why we are launching Know Your Rights Before Your Flights.

This dedicated section of the Affordable Skies platform will serve as an educational hub for airline passenger rights and consumer aviation policy. We will regularly publish in-depth articles, step-by-step travel guides, practical checklists, and regulatory updates that translate complex aviation rules into clear, accessible information for everyday travelers.
Delays and Cancellations
Helping travelers understand the difference between “controllable” and “uncontrollable” disruptions, and when airline commitments may include meals, hotel accommodations, or rebooking assistance.
The Fine Print Deconstructed
Explaining key provisions in airline Contracts of Carriage so passengers can better understand what is included when they purchase a ticket and what commitments may apply during travel.
Refunds and Consumer Mandates
Tracking Department of Transportation rules, including automatic cash-refund requirements, so travelers can understand when they may be eligible for a refund instead of a travel credit or voucher.
International Travel Protections
Providing information about foreign passenger-protection laws, including Europe’s EU261 regulation, which may provide eligible passengers with compensation in certain delay or cancellation situations.
Our goal is to help passengers better understand the policies, protections, and processes that may apply before, during, and after a trip. Topics will include:
Our Goal
The aviation system works best when passengers, airlines, airports, and policymakers all have access to clear information. By helping travelers understand the rules and available resources, we hope to support more informed conversations, smoother travel experiences, and greater confidence throughout the journey.
We invite readers to bookmark this section and check back regularly for updates, explainers, and practical tools.

Before you pack your bags for your next trip, take a moment to know your rights. Wheels up, rights landed!
