Following the collapse of its merger with Frontier Airlines, Spirit is reportedly considering “strategic alternatives to improve liquidity,” including a potential Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. Despite strong travel demand, the carrier hasn’t turned a profit in five of the last six quarters. The cost-cutting plan includes furloughing around 330 pilots by year-end and selling 23 older Airbus jets for approximately $519 million to generate $225 million next year.
